Artist Residencies
While La Cruz “the farm” was being built, La Cruz “the brand” was left to find its own way. An adherent of analogue photography, Harry has always found creativity through limitation; mainly shooting black and white film and avoiding the limitless possibilities of digital advancements. Living in a tent in the jungle meant the La Cruz branding too was born out of a restrictive environment. That meant Harry’s own work found a new direction, centred around an obvious central subject: the coffee farm.

The branding of La Cruz developed organically. With contributions from 18 artists (and counting) from all over the world, the collaborative touch can be seen across the imagery used by the brand. The blues come from Marina Longo’s cyanotype prints, the logo designed by local artist Mariela Juárez and printed photographs by Oliver Eglin and Benjamin Hampson featured too.
Already representing a talented roster of artists, La Cruz aims to build on this by inviting artists to work on the farm. The artist will have the freedom to live and work in this magical setting, with food and accommodation provided. Facilities for making art are currently limited, but will improve with time. This is not a residency for the faint of heart; as beautiful as the place is, the farm is still a work in progress so expect to be nudged out of your comfort zone.
